Joe Clem, Consultant, Coach, Trainer
Joe’s first career was in the entertainment business where he worked in television and film on both coasts for over 20years. Working with numerous big personalities, cultures and stressful situations, (Oprah Winfrey-WJZ-TV, Johnny Depp-Nick of Time & Ed Wood, Rob Reiner–North, James Cameron-True Lies, to name a few) Joe was exposed to the power of what positive cultures can create and conversely how negativity, infighting and often our core humanity can ruin greatness.
Seeking a greater personal impact, Joe returned to school and earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family therapy from Antioch University Los Angeles and later earned his Board Certification in Behavior analysis from Florida Technical Institute. Joe is currently licensed in New York State as a Marriage and Family therapist and Behavior Analyst and holds a certification as a Nurtured Heart Approach® advanced trainer and therapist.
Increasing the quality of people’s lives is a mission that has lead Joe to a variety of tasks. Joe maintains a private practice in Buffalo, NY serving couples and families especially those with a child experiencing behavior challenges from both developmental and emotional disabilities. Joe consults with school districts and human service agencies on building positive cultures through the Nurtured Heart Approach and behavior analysis. In one agency where Joe was the senior Behavior Specialist, the agency experienced a 32% reduction in behavior referrals. To maintain ties to family therapy and behavior analysis Joe continues to work in wrap-around services which allow him to go into homes to affect positive change. Joe also works for the state of New York as a psychologist II and is an adjunct professor at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY where he has taught advanced couples counseling.
Marriage and Family therapy is a study of human relationships and the emotional systems that govern how people act. Behavior analysis is an irrefutable science which demands a rigorous application of the principles of learning in order to bring about significant behavior change. This dual study has provided Joe a unique ability to identify the emotional elements at play which are pulling relationships apart and then design change plans to bring people back together. The field of Positive Psychology and the Nurtured Heart Approach provide many powerful tools Joe uses to empower clients to make the changes they desire while creating a positive, entertaining perspective in this movie we call life.
